Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed all civil servants in the state to resume full-time work at their offices from April 1, 2025, effectively ending the remote work arrangement introduced last year.

The directive, announced in a circular from the Office of the Head of Service (HoS) on Tuesday, February 11, marks the cancellation of the flexible working system that allowed junior civil servants to work from home for part of the week.

The initiative, introduced in February 2024, aimed to cushion the economic impact of the Federal Government’s removal of petrol subsidies. Senior civil servants, however, continued to work in-office daily.

According to the circular issued by Head of Service Bode Agoro, titled “Cancellation of the Work from Home Initiative in the Lagos State Public Service,” the decision follows the implementation of the new minimum wage in the state.

“Further to the implementation of the New Minimum Wage in the State Public Service and other commendable measures put in place by this administration to improve the welfare and well-being of public servants in Lagos State, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative,” the circular stated.

The directive, which takes full effect from March 31, 2025, requires all civil servants to return to a full Monday-to-Friday work schedule.

Public servants have been urged to rededicate themselves to their duties and ensure improved service delivery across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The Lagos State Government has been implementing various measures to enhance workers’ welfare, including salary adjustments and other incentives, as part of efforts to mitigate economic hardships.
