The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the presidency will return to the northern region after President Bola Tinubu completes his second term in 2027.
Ganduje made this statement on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF) at the APC secretariat in Abuja.
His remarks come amid reports of political maneuvering by some opposition figures aiming to form a coalition to challenge the ruling party in the next general elections.
Dismissing talks of a northern presidency in 2027, Ganduje described such ambitions as “dead on arrival,” emphasizing that power rotation within the APC remains in place.
“When a leader from the northern part of this country was in office for eight years, we advocated that the next president in our party should come from the south. And luckily enough, we worked very hard with the cooperation of Nigerians,” Ganduje said.
“Our president has come from the South and is going, Insha Allah, for a second term in 2027. And then after that, it will be the turn of the northern part of this country.”
The APC chairman commended Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a “reformer and visionary leader” committed to repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and development.
He highlighted the administration’s policy decisions aimed at addressing longstanding national challenges.
“We are happy with his reforms because they are absolutely necessary for the social and economic development of this country,” he said.
Acknowledging the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians, Ganduje stressed that Tinubu’s policies were essential to correcting systemic issues.
“There is no doubt that many things went wrong over a long period, and it requires precision surgery to set things right. But we are happy that we have started seeing the results of these reforms, especially in the economic sector,” he added.
