The Director-General of New Media to the Bayelsa State Governor, Samuel Oredipe, has debunked reports alleging that Governor Douye Diri is responsible for the pregnancy of reality TV star Nengi Hampson.
On Monday, February 10, social media was flooded with claims suggesting that the 27-year-old former Big Brother Naija star, who was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development in 2020, was expecting a child with the governor.
Reacting via his Facebook page, Oredipe described the reports as “fake news” spread by “wicked people” intent on tarnishing the governor’s reputation.
He emphasized that there is no personal relationship between Nengi and Governor Diri, dismissing the rumors as politically motivated.
He further accused political opponents of attempting to distract from the administration’s achievements, particularly as the government marked its fifth anniversary with key projects, including the inauguration of a new road in Yenagoa.
“Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with Governor Diri, and it is regrettable that purveyors of fake news are unhappy with his rising political profile,” Oredipe stated.
Nengi herself has also publicly denied the claims, further discrediting the speculation circulating online.
