Gunmen Strike Again in Ondo, K!l! Health Worker Near Akure Airport

Suspected kidnappers have killed a 46-year-old health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, near Akure Airport in Eleyowo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, as Oyabiyi, a father of four, was returning home when gunmen ambushed and opened fire on him.

A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Oyabiyi was likely targeted for abduction but was shot when he attempted to escape.

“The incident happened around 8 pm. It seems they were trying to kidnap him, but he tried to get away. They shot him in the belly at close range, and he died shortly after. The attackers came out from the bush and fired at him while he was in his car,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, stated that an investigation is underway and that officers are actively working to track down the perpetrators.
