Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has taken legal action to challenge his recent impeachment, filing a lawsuit before a Lagos High Court.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, is contesting the validity of the process and is urging the court to overturn the decision, reinstating him as Speaker.
According to Vanguard, the lawsuit, filed on Thursday, February 13, lists the new Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
The former Speaker argues that the plenary session leading to his impeachment was improperly convened, making the process unconstitutional.
He contends that lawmakers met during a recess without formally reconvening, thereby violating constitutional provisions and the Assembly’s standing orders.
Obasa maintains that the impeachment did not follow due process and should be nullified. The case is yet to be assigned to a judge, and no date has been set for the hearing.
