Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has cast his vote at Unit 9, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area as the much-debated election kicks off across the state.
The governor exercised his franchise early on Saturday morning at 8 a.m., amid growing concerns over possible unrest.
Despite calls for suspension, the election is proceeding as scheduled. The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, had advised against holding the poll, citing legal and security concerns.
Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force warned of potential disturbances due to disputes among political parties.
In response to security concerns, the Labour Party (LP) withdrew from the election, stating that the safety of its party agents could not be guaranteed.
