The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) inherited a debt of N8,987,874,663 upon assuming office.
Ganduje made this disclosure during the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, state governors, NWC members, and other party chieftains.
He attributed the liabilities to legal expenses incurred during pre-election litigations, election disputes, and appeals related to legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.
“The current NWC inherited debts and legal liabilities to the total tune of N8,987,874,663, arising from various legal engagements,” Ganduje stated.
Despite the financial burden, he noted that the National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdul Kareem Kana (SAN), has been working on reducing the debt through dialogue and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Ganduje further appealed to the NEC for intervention, revealing that some of the party’s accounts remain garnished due to outstanding obligations.
“We still passionately appeal to the National Executive Committee to intervene accordingly,” he pleaded.
The NEC meeting is expected to deliberate on key party matters, including financial strategies to address the inherited debt and ensure APC’s stability ahead of future elections.
