Thirty-five lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly have appeared before the Ikeja High Court for the hearing of a lawsuit filed by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his removal from office.
Obasa, who was ousted while on a trip to the United States, filed the suit to contest the legitimacy of his removal and the subsequent election of Hon. Mojisola Meranda as Speaker.
Despite his removal, Obasa made a controversial return to the Assembly on Thursday, asserting that he remained the Speaker.
The case, currently being heard by Hon. Justice Y.R. Pinheiro, is expected to determine the legality of Obasa’s removal and whether he can reclaim his position.
