Britain, France, and Ukraine have agreed to collaborate on a ceasefire plan aimed at ending the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, with discussions set to involve the United States.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made this known on Sunday, ahead of a crucial summit of European leaders focused on resolving the conflict.

The development comes in the wake of a tense exchange between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last Friday.

Trump had accused Zelenskyy of showing ingratitude for America’s support in Ukraine’s fight against Russian forces.

Despite the friction, Starmer emphasized the need to restore peace negotiations, stating that Britain, alongside France and possibly other allies, will work on a proposal to halt hostilities before engaging Washington in further discussions.

“We have now agreed that the United Kingdom, along with France and possibly one or two others, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting, and then we will discuss that plan with the United States,” Starmer told the BBC.

Both Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have reportedly reached out to Trump as diplomatic efforts intensify.

The upcoming summit is expected to shape the next steps toward a potential ceasefire, though challenges remain given the geopolitical complexities surrounding the war.
