The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Muniru Haruna, for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter in Orile-Ilugun, Odeda Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement, revealing that the suspect lured the minor into his room while she was playing outside.

According to Odutola, the victim’s mother, Alaba Abdullahi, raised the alarm after hearing her daughter cry. Upon investigation, she found the child walking unsteadily as she emerged from the suspect’s room, showing visible signs of distress.

“On March 1, 2025, at about 11:00 am, the Orile-Ilugun police outpost received a distress call from 20-year-old Alaba Abdullahi regarding her daughter,” Odutola stated.

“Alaba reported that Muniru Haruna, a resident in the same community, allegedly committed the act while the child was playing nearby. Upon noticing her daughter’s unusual behavior, she conducted further checks and discovered that the child had difficulty walking and exhibited signs of physical trauma.”

The police spokesperson added that the minor was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Odeda for medical examination and necessary treatment. The police are currently awaiting the doctor’s report to aid their investigation.

Although Haruna has denied the allegations, the case has been referred to the Division Crime Branch for further investigation and will subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Eleweran, for a more detailed inquiry.

Odutola reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and ensuring justice for victims of abuse. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could endanger the safety of minors.
