Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has confirmed a violent attack on her ancestral home in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025. The incident, which occurred around 1:00 a.m., involved unidentified gunmen reportedly armed with rifles and machetes.
According to a statement from her Chief Press Secretary, Arogbonlo Israel, the assailants vandalized the family residence, smashing windows and damaging property.
The Senator’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, has since reported the matter to security authorities.
In her reaction, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the attack as a cowardly act, linking it to her recent public allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
She alleged that the assault may have been politically motivated and called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate her security detail, which she said had been previously withdrawn.
The Senator narrated that the attackers might have targeted the house under the assumption that she was present, following an earlier visit by her younger brother and a group of contractors to inspect ongoing projects in her constituency.
While no casualties were reported, the swift intervention of local vigilantes and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) helped repel the attackers and restore calm to the area.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged residents to remain peaceful and vigilant, emphasizing that threats and intimidation will not deter her from advocating for justice and accountability.
