2027: Peter Obi’s Best Bet Is Vice Presidency Under Atiku – Deji Adeyanju

Deji Adeyanju, a political commentator and human rights activist, has sparked debate on the prospects of former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a post shared on his verified X account, Adeyanju stated that the most realistic political role Obi could secure in the next presidential election is that of a running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, should the latter decide to contest again.

According to Adeyanju, only a northern politician currently has the political capital and grassroots network required to pose a credible challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

“The best Peter Obi can get in 2027 is Atiku’s VP. Only northern politicians have the capacity to challenge Tinubu,” Adeyanju wrote.

His statement comes amid ongoing political realignments and speculation over potential alliances among opposition figures.

In the 2023 election, Peter Obi, under the Labour Party, emerged as a surprise third-force candidate, gaining massive youth support but ultimately falling short at the polls.

Adeyanju, a known critic of both the ruling party and opposition figures, also took a swipe at Obi’s ardent supporters, known as “Obidients,” anticipating backlash for his opinion.

“I know they will come for me, but truth must be told,” he added in a follow-up post, suggesting that emotional responses from Obi’s support base often stifle objective political analysis.
