2027: Some Just Want Obi to Help Them Win Elections – Amadi Faults VP Talks

former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, has voiced his concerns regarding the ongoing controversies surrounding Labour Party’s presidential flagbearer in the last election, Mr. Peter Obi.

Taking to his official X handle on Monday, Amadi weighed in on the ongoing debate over whether Obi should consider a vice presidential ticket alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming polls.

According to Amadi, certain individuals appear to support Obi only as a means to their own political ends, particularly to boost the chances of other candidates.

He lamented that Obi is often unfairly criticised and labelled as “selfish” when he does not conform to such expectations.

“The problem with Peter Obi is that some people just want him to help them win elections,” Amadi wrote.

“If he does not say ‘I will be vice president to Atiku,’ then he is selfish. They abuse him. But real supporters of Obi want him to be president.”

His comments come amid growing division among Obi’s supporters, with some advocating for a strategic alliance with the PDP to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while others insist Obi should maintain his independent presidential ambition under the Labour Party.

Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, especially among youths and reform-minded citizens.

However, his next political move remains unclear, as speculations swirl over potential alliances ahead of 2027.
