Nigerian skit maker and comedian, White Olasunkanmi Barry, popularly known as Son of the Prophet, has opened up on why he decided to stop mimicking Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church.

In an interview with comedian Teju Babyface, Barry revealed that the decision was born out of emotional strain and harsh criticism from some members of the public, despite the online fame and recognition his skits brought him.

Barry disclosed that many people sent messages warning him that imitating the revered cleric could attract curses.

“A lot of people sent in messages saying I was creating curses for myself. They would ask, ‘Did Bishop David Oyedepo really approve this?’ Some messages would just break me,” Barry shared.

He further revealed that some critics urged him to “create his own path,” which left him questioning if his creativity was truly misplaced.

In 2024, Barry shocked fans when he announced he would no longer continue with the Bishop Oyedepo character. At the time, his decision appeared abrupt, but he now says it was necessary for his peace of mind.

“If someone had told me that a day like this would come, I would have argued it. But the truth is, it became a personal burden,” he said

Respect for Bishop Oyedepo

Despite stepping away from the viral act, Barry expressed his deep respect for the cleric, emphasizing that his decision was not out of disrespect but personal reflection.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to walk in the steps of God’s servant,” Barry noted.

The comedian hinted that his focus now is on finding a unique creative path that aligns with his peace and spiritual direction.
