Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on young Nigerians to take responsibility for the country’s future by registering to vote ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a message posted on his official X account on Sunday, Obi stressed that “God will not descend to elect leaders for Nigeria,” urging youths to see their voter’s card as the strongest tool against poor governance.
The former Anambra State governor made the remarks while reflecting on his participation in the National Youth Rally, marking the 40th anniversary of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, under the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province.
Obi noted that the responsibility of building a better Nigeria lies with the younger generation, adding that true progress requires citizens to elect leaders with “competence, capacity, compassion, and character.
The 2027 polls are already shaping up as a test of Nigeria’s democratic resilience, with calls growing for greater youth involvement in politics.
