Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that the renewed Western narrative about a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria is part of a coordinated attempt to punish the country for condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza at the United Nations.
In a statement titled “The Fiction of Christian Genocide and the Conspiracy Against Nigeria” posted on X on Sunday, Fani-Kayode claimed that recent statements from American figures and Western institutions accusing Nigeria of persecuting Christians were politically motivated and designed to incite religious tension.
He described Nigeria’s UN position — supporting a two-state solution and defending the Palestinian people — as “our proudest moment and finest hour.”
“The reason they are now talking about Nigeria and what they have labelled as ‘Christian genocide’ is not because they care about Nigerian Christians,” he said. “They want to shift attention away from Gaza and punish us for taking a bold stand against the genocide being unleashed on Palestinians.”
Fani-Kayode insisted that Nigeria’s current backlash from the West was “the price we are paying for standing up for humanity.”
