Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, marking a key shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

The registration was completed on Monday, following Atiku’s earlier meeting with ADC supporters and stakeholders in the state over the weekend.

Atiku’s aide, Abdul Rasheeth, confirmed the development in a statement. Videos from the event showed Atiku’s convoy entering the town as supporters beat drums, waved placards, and cheered his arrival.

Atiku acknowledged the crowd, greeting supporters from his vehicle as he received his ADC membership card.

In a short post on X after the event, Atiku wrote: “It’s official. –AA”

Atiku had previously endorsed the coalition party in July as a possible platform for uniting opposition figures including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal ahead of 2027. Until now, however, he and other leading figures had held back from formal registration.

His official entry into the ADC is expected to boost the party’s profile and strengthen opposition coordination before the next general election.
