President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency as the country continues to grapple with increasing attacks from band!ts , t#rror groups and other armed ass@ilants. The announcement came on Wednesday night through a national statement that underscored the urgency of the situation.
According to the President, the recent surge in violent disruptions has reached a scale that demands immediate and coordinated intervention. He emphasized that “the times require all hands on deck,” signalling a renewed commitment to strengthen national protection systems.
As part of the emergency response, the Nigeria Police Force has been given approval to recruit an additional 20,000 officers, bringing its ongoing recruitment figure to 50,000 personnel. The Nigerian Army has also received the green light to expand its enlistment to boost troop numbers across various operational zones.
To accelerate training, Tinubu has authorised the use of NYSC camps as temporary police training centres, supplementing the facilities already undergoing upgrades nationwide. He also directed that officers previously withdrawn from VIP duties should undergo quick reorientation courses before being deployed to high risk communities and vulnerable locations.
In a bold move to reclaim forested regions, the President instructed the Department of State Services to immediately deploy trained forest guards. The agency has also been permitted to recruit more personnel specifically for forest security operations aimed at clearing out armed groups hiding in remote areas.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s determination to restore safety, saying: “This is a national emergency. We are deploying more boots on the ground, especially in security challenged areas. There will be no hiding places for agents of evil.”
